Requirements for your photographs

The quality of your original image is the most important part of your future canvas and we would to over some basic guidelines for your photo. For instance, we cannot blow some wallet sized photo to a 24x36 inch print.

And one of the “golden rules of giclee printing” is WE CANNOT PRINT A DIGITAL IMAGE SAVED FROM THE WEB AT ANY SIZE.

Digital Images

Do not print out your digital image and mail it to us to scan. In this case our ability to create a quality image will be limited by the quality of your printer. If you want us to make a print from a picture you took with a digital camera, you have to upload the file to our server.

The photographs taken with your camera should be set at the highest setting to create the largest files possible. If you make any adjustments to the picture with photo editing software (such as Adobe Photoshop ®), make sure to save the file as a JPEG (JPG). We do not accept any other formats. If you are professional artist or photographer and you are registered with our PRO store, you can upload JPEG (JPG), TIFF or RAW files.

How large of a print we can make from your image is depends on the quality of your camera.

The larger the file size, the bigger the print we can make.

Here is a basic guide for you:

This is just a basic guide. Some photos will look fine at larger sizes than the chart above allows. The better the quality of the photo and the larger or more prominent the main object or person(s) in the photo, the better the quality of the finished product.

The most frequent question our customers ask us is: “How and where can I see the size of my image?”

Here is the simple answer to this “difficult” question:

  1. Open the folder where your picture located
  2. Click with right button of your mouse on the icon of the picture you want to upload to our server.
  3. You will see a pull-down menu, then move your cursor to “Properties” and click on it.
  4. In the next window you will see all the properties for your picture.
  5. Click on tap “details” and you will find the real size of your image:
  6. In our case the size of the picture was 3272 x 2595 px, and such size is perfect for giclee up to 32”x46”.

If you have any questions or if you are not sure if your digital photo will be good enough for certain size of the giclee, don’t hesitate to call us at 646-300-9637, and our specialists will answer to all you questions.

Traditional Photographs

We can make giclee from variety of conventional photo formats like 35mm film, slides or negatives taken from a film camera, and actual photos developed regular way.

We can basically blow up a photos or transparencies 6-10 times the size of the original. For example, we can enlarge a regular 4x6 photograph to a 24x36 print and maintain decent quality.
Our scanner can scan a photograph up to 8.5x11 inches with up to 9600 dpi.

Of course, the larger the photograph you send us, the better print we can make. And, as with digital photographs, the better the quality of the photo and the larger or more prominent the main object or person(s) in the photo, the better the quality of the finished product.

There are few “no-no” rules that allow us to make the best giclee for you.

  1. Do not enlarge or increase the resolution of your photo with any graphic software programs to get a larger file size.
  2. Do not edit your photo image! Do not “enhance” it with some software that you found on the Internet. Send us your digital image untouched, unedited, and our designers will prepare your photo and make your canvas with the best quality possible.
  3. Again, we cannot and we will not accept for production a digital image saved from the web site at any size
